J1407b

SuperSaturn Pic

J1407b is a planet with a huge ring system, which is why people call it a “Super-Saturn.” Its rings are much bigger than Saturn’s. J1407b’s rings are about 90 million kilometers wide, which is approximately 1,143 times the width of Saturn's main rings. If Saturn had rings this big, we could see them from Earth without a telescope. Scientists found J1407b in 2007 when they saw its star, J1407, get dimmer in a strange way. The planet itself has not been seen directly, so scientists are still trying to figure out how big it is, what its orbit is like, and if it is really a planet or maybe a brown dwarf. This makes J1407b very interesting to study.
